exception to the rule: velvet underground

most of those who know me know that i am not a proponent of junkie chic, but i have somewhat softened in my bile–ostensibly due to growing up and learning that a very many of us have a drug of choice that informs our lives and work–but anywho, i really used to hate velvet underground.  hated that so many seemed to espouse them as the arbiters of nyc cool, hated their association with warhol and the factory and the 60s–which i love–and hated nico, more than anything.  but back in austin in the spring i walked around waterloo and was looking for more xtc albums to buy and this cd was right up front in their section and i just couldn’t resist it.  over the top rock and roll sexy that reminded me of roxy music and the colors are brilliant and hard and it is just too cool.  someday i will buy it on vinyl and throw it on the wall.  for a while, i kept the jewel case out just because i liked seeing it in the morning next to the computer while i had my coffee.
